<dcterms:description><![CDATA[During COVID-19, many sewists and quilters like myself raided our stashes of quilting fabric, elastic and tee-shirt yarn to make quilted cotton masks. Although their usage was controversial until the CDC came out with official recommendations for their use, masks made with quilting cotton were found to be effective at filtering between 50-70% of viral particles. Masks can be worn as covers to protect N95 filter masks, as emergency covers for medical workers, or for people to wear in public during a pandemic. This was my prototype--the first mask I made, my favorite, and the one I made for myself. At the time of submission, I have made and mailed 32 masks to friends, families, and students across the country.]]></dcterms:description>
